Hong Kong

A few weekends ago, twelve girls including me hit the bustling city of Hong Kong. One of our colleagues is getting married and to celebrate the end of her single life, her bachelorette took place in the New York of the east. We had an expert with us, Carolyn a good friend of mine, grew up in HK and led the way. On day one, we went for a traditional Chinese breakfast which consisted of macaroni soup with ham and a side of scrambled eggs. We then headed for an 8km hike over the Dragon's Back Trail. The hike provided for breathtaking views of HK and ended at Tai Long Beach. We later headed out on the town. The nightlife, the crowds, the food and the overall vibe was impressive. We partied the night away with locals and expats alike. After a late rise on Sunday we walked through different neighbourhoods and markets. For our last day, Carolyn's father was able to get a table for all of us at a famous Chinese Tea House. We were served delicious dumplings, breads, tea and other traditional dishes. Later, we set off to see the Big Buddha. A 34m high buddha, it is the largest sitting buddha in the world. Once again the views from the top of the mountain were spectacular. Our time was short but plentiful in HK. This was yet another destination I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the hustle and bustle of a big city and great food!
