Here I am going into my tenth year of teaching, however this
time it will be in Singapore !
I have spent much of my teaching career at ACES, an
elementary school in Ottawa , Canada .
ACES has been home for the last nine years, a place where I developed professionally
and most of all have created lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.
I always knew I wanted to become a teacher and once I became
one, I knew I had good reason to follow my heart. Teaching is my passion, it is
where I feel most comfortable, most confident and most helpful. We view
teachers as those who infuse knowledge, empower students and prepare them for
the road ahead. For me it is the other way around. My students have taught me lessons
you don’t find in books, to be fearless, to live life fully, to love unconditionally,
to dream BIG and not to worry about tomorrow.
Another passion of mine is travelling. Packing my bags,
boarding a plane and landing on foreign land are exhilarating for me. Often times, we can be
so set in our ways that we forget just how many possibilities life holds in
store for us. There is so much power in saying yes to whatever opportunities you find knocking at
your door that you really never know just where life may take you. Over the past couple summers I have
travelled with friends and solo which allowed me to explore not only those possibilities,
but the possibilities within myself. While traveling solo I became more
independent, confident, self-assured, and outgoing. And without familiar
friends and family to form a buffer between the unknown and myself, I learned
more about the outside world and my place in it.
Earlier
this year, I took a step back and assessed what it was that I really wanted out
of life. Seeing more of the world became a top priority for me. When I was
offered a teaching position in Singapore , many thoughts went
through my mind…missing the life I had at home, my family, my friends, the
early year’s of my nephew’s life to excitement of a new adventure, discovering
another part of the world and enriching my teaching career.
So
here I am, setting off on another chapter of my life…
