It has been a wild run since my last post, I have been to Bali, Australia, the Maldives and Sri Lanka. To answer a question you may have on your mind, yes I do work. One of the best things about living in this part of the world is the endless travel opportunities. On top of that, my school has holidays spread out around the year which is great if you enjoy getting away and experiencing different places and cultures.
Over the Chinese New Year holiday, a group of girls and myself set off for five days in Bali. We opted for a villa in Seminyak, which is a touristy beach town next to Kuta. It has tons of shops, spas, restaurants and hustle-bustle. Our villa was located in the center of town. Once behind the gates it was our own piece of paradise with rooms open to our garden/pool area and the breeze flowing in and out. During our time in Bali we headed to the beach for our private surf lessons, had a local cook come to our villa and create an authentic balinese meal for us and we splurged on daily massages also at our villa. The best part of it was the cost...very minimal. We enjoyed a night out or two at
Motel Mexicola, A day spent at the
Potato Head Beach Club and bar hoping in Kuta. Katie and I spent one night having a blast at
La Favela, a funky and eclectic bar/restaurant. It is Brazilian inspired with lots of soul.
The most surprising part of my trip to Bali was learning that it does not have infrastructure for garbage disposal. During the rainy season, the monsoons wash the river garbage into the oceans and it collects on the beaches. It didn't affect our time much as we didn't spend it on the beach however, it is something to consider if you plan on being a beach bum in Bali.
